The Village Birders Club

Year End Report from Barb Gay

May 2007

It's been another great year for the club and as I complete my 2nd year as President I reflect on our great birding experiences. All the new members (current membership is 200), and the veteran members that join us for most of the walks and are becoming better birders every outing. The more you bird the better you get and even though some of you don't have that self confidence yet, you are better than you think. Feel good about all you've learned and keep getting out there. I'm proud of all of you.

Here are some statistics for you:

This last year we went on 19 walks, 5 drives and 2 boat rides.
Plus we cancelled: 1 walk due to a Tornado, 1 walk due to Rain and 1 walk due to drought conditions .

We participated in 2 Audubon Christmas Bird Count's, watched the Whooping Cranes fly into the Dunellen Airport, put on a booth, workshop and walk at the Outdoor Expo, published 5 issues of our paper "Cheep Talk" and held 6 membership meetings with great speakers and a picnic.

Your Executive Board met 7 times.

The top 4 walks that produced the most bird species were:
#4 Wood Duck Dr. at Emeralda Marsh - 60 species on 12-7-06
#3 Cedar Key - 63 species on 10-20-06
#2 Cedar Key - 65 species on 4-5-07
