Withlacoochee Forest -Bay Trail

A cold morn but then a beautiful day, for a change, as we drove and walked this great trail along the Barge Canal to Withlacoochee Bay on the Gulf. Yellow-rumps were everywhere and Eastern Tohees were bursting forth with song. Along with our count of 48 species of birds we were treated to a family of Dolphins in the Canal and a Raccoon trying out for the summer Olympics


Birds Seen Today:
Hooded Merganser, Common Loon, Brown Pelican, Double-Crested Cormorant, Anhinga, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Snowy Egret, Little Blue Heron, Tricolored Heron, Wood Stork, Black Vulture, Turkey Vulture, Osprey, Bald Eagle, Sandhill Crane, American Oystercatcher, Willet, Laughing Gull, Ring-Billed Gull, Royal Tern, Black Skimmer, Mourning Dove, Belted Kingfisher, Red-Bellied Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Eastern Phoebe, Blue Jay, American Crow, Tree Swallow, Carolina Chickadee, Carolina Wren, House Wren, Ruby-Crowned Kinglet, Eastern Bluebird, Hermit Thrush, American Robin, Gray Catbird, Northern Mockingbird, Cedar Waxwing, Yellow-Rumped Warbler, Palm Warbler, Eastern Towhee, Savannah Sparrow, White-Throated Sparrow, Northern Cardinal And Boat-Tailed Grackle.



Birds Heard Today:
Tufted Titmouse

Some of us stopped at Panasofkee on our way back and saw:

Red-Shouldered Hawk, American Kestrel, Killdeer, Wilson's Snipe, Red-Headed Woodpecker And 6 Loggerhead Shrikes
