Bird walk report - Sabal Bluff Preserve

Date: Friday, Nov. 17, 2006

 

A nice walk at a new place close to home! Sabal Bluff, on the edge of Lake Griffin, has open fields, mixed woods and lake shore. The birds were certainly not out in force as we saw only 31 species there but some of the group continued on to Emeralda and Wood Duck Dr. so I will also report those additional species seen at Emeralda Marsh

Birds Seen Today:

Double Crested Cormorant, Anhinga, Snowy Egret, White Ibis, Osprey, Bald Eagle, Red Shouldered Hawk, American Kestrel, Ring Billed Gull, Mourning Dove, Red Bellied Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Pileated Woodpecker, Eastern Phoebe, Blue Jay, Fish Crow, Tree Swallow, House Wren, Ruby Crowned Kinglet, Blue Gray Gnatcatcher, Northern Mockingbird, Brown Thrasher, Palm Warbler, Chipping Sparrow, Northern Cardinal, Common Grackle And Boat Tailed Grackle

Birds Heard Today:

Gray Catbird, Carolina Wren And American Goldfnch

Birds Seen: Wood Duck Drive/ Emeralda Marsh

Black Bellied Whistling Duck, Blue Winged Teal, Ring Necked Duck, Lesser Scaup, Pied Billed Grebe, American Bittern, Great Egret, Little Blue Heron, Tricolored Heron, Cattle Egret, Glossy Ibis, Black Vulture, Turkey Vulture, Northern Harrier, Red Tailed Hawk, Purple Gallinule, Common Moorhen, American Coot, Killdeer, American Crow And Red Winged Blackbird.

Birds Heard: Wood Duck Drive/ Emeralda Marsh

Thursday November 30, Potts Preserve Trail, located in the Inverness area. Meet at Belk's parking lot 7:30 AM. Lunch at Turner's Fish Camp on the Withlacoochee River.
