Bird walk report - Ocklawaha Prairie

Date: Thursday, November 13, 2008

A white sky that stayed with us most of the morning helped to keep the heat down but made viewing a bit tough. Some new species for the local and a very snaky trip as there were 5 snakes that showed up: eastern black racer, yellow rat snake, 2 rough green snakes and the fattest cotton mouth in the south that was not a happy camper. In all 47 species of birds (not bad considering there were no water fowl), 4 snakes, and let's not forget the doe and fawn that crossed the entry road. Sure wish that Virginia Rail would have come out for all to see. Always a nice day of birding at the prairie and a fun lunch at the Damn Diner.
