Bird walk report - Moss Bluff

Date: Wednesday, April 18, 2008

What a great day for a walk along the Oklawaha River!  34 birders enjoyed the sunshine, breeze and the beauty of the cypress trees as they were reflected in a very calm river.  Of course, we were greeted by the many black vultures; that's after we all pooled our entrance fee into the park in the last envelope.  Thanks to Donna, Lyn, Kris, and Marcy for bringing their scopes for those close-ups of the nestlings.  Other highlights were the great views of the limpkin screaming at us and the spotted sandpiper feeding along the edge of the river.

Anhinga, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Little Blue Heron, Tri-Colored Heron, Cattle Egret, Green Heron, White Ibis, Wood Stork, Black Vulture, Turkey Vulture, Osprey, Red-Shouldered Hawk, Purple Gallinule, Common Moorhen, Limpkin, Spotted Sandpiper, Ring-Billed Gull, Mourning Dove, Belted Kingfisher, Red-Bellied Woodpecker, Pileated Woodpecker, Great Crested Flycatcher, Blue Jay, Gray Catbird, Northern Cardinal, Red-Winged Blackbird, Common Grackle, And Boat-Tailed Grackle
