Bird walk report - Lake Woodruff NRW

Date: Friday, November 3, 2006

 

After a confusing start (my apologies once again) and mother nature's brisk breath witch surely made the birds hunker down, a total of 40 species were counted for the day. The walk at Woodruff totaled 3 miles so those of us that continued on for breakfast at DeLeon Springs State Park pigged out.

Birds Seen Today:

Hooded Merganser, Wild Turkey, Pied-Billed Grebe, Double-Crested Cormorant, Anhinga, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Little Blue Heron, Tricolored Heron, Green Heron, Black-Crowned Night Heron, White Ibis, Black Vulture, Turkey Vulture, Osprey, Bald Eagle, Northern Harrier, Red-Shouldered Hawk, Red-Tailed Hawk, Merlin, Common Moorhen, American Coot, Sandhill Crane, Mourning Dove, Belted Kingfisher, Red-Bellied Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Pleated Woodpecker, Eastern Phoebe, White-Eyed Vireo, Barn Swallow, Tufted Titmouse, Ruby-Crowned Kinglet, Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher, Northern Mockingbird, Yellow-Rumped Warbler, Palm Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Red-Winged Blackbird, Common Grackle And Boat-Tailed Grackle.

Birds Heard Today:

Carolina Wren.

Those of you who made this trip will be notified by email in the next couple of days. The bad news is there is only room for 16 people due to the lack of drivers for this event as we only have 4 drivers who volunteered. Those on stand-by will also be notified.
