Bird walk report - Deleon Springs State Park

Well it was a no show for the first of the season Red-eyed Vireo but the first of the season Northern Water Thrush made an appearance to make up for it. The count for the day was 43 with a late show of the Swallow-tailed Kite. The rain held off until after our walk and pancake breakfast so once again we thank Mother Nature for her kindness.

Birds Seen Today:

Wild Turkey, Double-Crested Cormorant, Anhinga, Great Blue Heron, Little Blue Heron, Cattle Egret, Green Heron, Black-Crowned Night Heron, Black Vulture, Turkey Vulture, Osprey, Swallow-Tailed Kite, Red-Shouldered Hawk, American Kestrel, Common Moorhen, American Coot, Sandhill Crane, Mourning Dove, Red-Bellied Woodpecker, Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker, Downy Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Blue Jay, Fish Crow, Tufted Titmouse, Carolina Wren, Ruby-Crowned Kinglet, Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher, American Robin, Gray Catbird, Northern Mockingbird, Northern Parula, Yellow-Rumped Warbler, Yellow-Throated Warbler, Black-And-White Warbler, Northern Waterthrush, Northern Cardinal, Common Grackle And Boat-Tailed Grackle

 

Birds Heard Today:

Eurasian Collared-Dove, Pileated Woodpecker, Eastern Towhee And American Goldfinch.

Next Up:

Wood Duck Dr., Friday March 28, meet in Belk's parking lot 7:15 AM. This is a 5 mile drive through Emeralda Marsh with many stops for birds and one of our best trips of the calendar year. Spring is upon us and we hope for some surprises as the birds are on the move north.
