The Village Birders Club

Bird walk report -Cedar Key

Date: Thursday, April 6, 2006

A small group of Birders saw a lot of species today at Cedar Key even though the tide did not cooperate with us as low tide came in at 2:44pm and was only 2 inches lower than high tide. Once again the cemetery was great with 3 Great Horned Owls making an appearance. The Cedar Key count came in at 77 species. My car plus one finished the day at Goethe St. Forest in search of the Brown-Headed Nuthatch and Red Cockaded Woodpecker with great success. First pass through the forest we missed the side road for the WP and my car turned back for a second try, sorry the second car did not as we were treated to a lengthy viewing of the three RCWP foraging in the trees. Paul took many pictures that I hope he will share with all. The Woodpeckers were seen at aprox. 5pm (great light). What a great birding day!
