Bird walk report -Bourlay Historic Nature Park

The last walk for 2008, can you believe it, was a lovely day at Bourlay with 42 species and a owl species that flushed and was to fast to call. Most likely the resident Barred as his mottled brown back was quickly seen as he flew away. A Ruby Crowned Kinglet treated the group to major flashing of his ruby red crown, a sight that took yours truly many years to see.


Birds Seen Today:

Pied-Billed Grebe, Anhinga, Double-Crested Cormorant, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Wood Stork, Black Vulture, Turkey Vulture, Osprey, Bald Eagle, Sharp-Shinned Hawk, Red-Shouldered Hawk, Common Moorhen, Ring-Billed Gull, Mourning Dove, Red-Bellied Woodpecker, Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker, Downy Woodpecker, Eastern Phoebe, Blue-Headed Vireo, Blue Jay, American Crow, Fish Crow, Tufted Titmouse, Carolina Wren, House Wren, Ruby-Crowned Kinglet, Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher, Eastern Bluebird, Hermit Thrush, American Robin, Gray Catbird, Northern Mockingbird, Yellow-Rumped Warbler, Pine Warbler, Palm Warbler, Black-And-White Warbler, Swamp Sparrow, Northern Cardinal, Painted Bunting And Baltimore Oriole.

Birds Heard Today:

American Goldfinch.

Next Up:
The first walk of 2009 will be to Sunnyhill, lead by Linda Felker, on Saturday Jan. 3rd.  Meet at Belk's parking lot at 8 am, aprox. walk time 2 hours.
