Bear Head Hammock Trail ( At Twomile Prairie Preserve)
Take 466 through Oxford to 475 north. Left on 484 west . Left on 200 (rest stop at Citgo station after you cross the Withlacoochee River) . Right on 491. Look for sign on the right for Bear Head Hammock Trail.

Bolin Bluff - Payne's Prairie

From Wal – Mart on Rt. 466 go west through Oxford. (466 becomes 475). Turn left on Rt. 484 to I-75 north. Follow I-75 to exit 374 for Micanopy and Payne’s Prairie. Travel east on CR 234 for 1 mile to blinking light at 441. Turn left (north) on 441 , go past main entrance to Payne’s Prairie on right and continue on 441 approx. four miles to entrance for Bolan Bluff on right.

Bourlay Historic Nature Park
Park is located on north Canal St. between Highway 441 and Lake Griffin. From The Villages take 441/27 south to Leesburg. Bear left on 441 a short distance and watch for Canal St. on the left. (If you pass the orange juice plant on the right – you went too far) Turn left on Canal St. then follow to Bourlay Drive to parking lot.
From Belk’s parking lot go to Griffin Road to Rt 25 north to 42 west (turn right). Follow to 44 and turn left onto 44. Take 15a ( right) to 17 south (right) to Orange City. Watch for sign for French Ave. The park is on the right 2100 W. French Ave. Blue Spring State Park
Carney Island
From Belk's turn right (south) on U.S. 27/441. At the next light turn left onto Griffin St.Take 25 north through Weirsdale and Ocklawaha. Continue north about 7 mile on 25 and pass Alfie'sRestaurant on the right. Look for Motel (Twin Pines? Motel) at next corner and look for sign for Carney Island. Turn left at motel and follow this road to Park Entrance. Pay toll as you enter the Park. Straight ahead to parking area.

27/441 to left on 42 to right on CR 475 to light atRt. 484. West (left) on 484 under I-75 and continue to Dunnellon. Continue straight ahead and 484 becomes Rt. 40. Follow about 4 miles to Rt. 336 north (on right). 336 will merge with 19 north and follow to Otter Creek. Left on 24 west to Cedar Key. We will stop at gas station (BP?) on right about 5 miles after turn on 24 for final directions.

Clay Island at Zellwood


Take 441 South through Leesburg and past Lake Square Mall. After you pass Lake Eustis on your left, turn right at next traffic light onto 19 South go a short distance and turn left onto Rt. 561. Another short distance to a left onto 448 East to Lake Jem. Turn right on 448A and cross 48. Field station is less than 1/4 mile on right.

DeLeon Springs State Park

From Belk’s parking lot take Griffin Rd. to 25. Turn left on 25 and follow to 42. Turn right ( east), 42 ends at 44. Turn left on 44 then left on 15A. Turn left on 17/15 to DeLeon Springs. Watch on left for Park sign. Turn left (west) on Ponce DeLeon Blvd. Proceed 1 mile over railroad tracks into park

Dora Canal- Heritage Nature Tours
Take 441 / 27 south to Leesburg, at split in the road stay left on 441. Pass Leesburg Mall. Stay in right lane. Just before the bridge, on the right is Harbor Side Restaurant. Turn right and look for Heritage Nature Tours.

Emeralda Marsh Web Information
From Belk’s parking lot to Griffin Road to 25. Turn left on 25 to 42.east, turn right.follow 42 to 452 turn right and go to Emeralda Island Road. Make a right turn. Keep bearing left,. You will pass Emeralda Canal and the exit to Wood Duck Drive. Entrance to parking is on the right.

Fort Cooper State Park
From the Villages (Wal-Mart) take 466 N to 475 S to 44W . Follow to Inverness where it joins 41. Follow 41S to Eden Dr. Turn left (E) and turn right (S) at the stop sign at Old Floral City Rd. Park will be straight ahead on the right (W) side of the road. Address is 3100 South Old Floral City Rd. Inverness, FL 34450

Ferndale Preserve

Belk’s parking lot , take US 27 South, take CR561 (left turn) North to CR 561A (right turn) follow till it ends at CR455, make a Left onto CR455 drive ¼ mile or less and the Preserve will be on your Right.   Look for a gated drive and park off the road where you can.

From Belks take 466 to 301. Turn left(south) to Wildwood entrance for the FL Turnpike south. Take the Orlando Airport exit and then follow sign for 441 south. It is about 3 miles to Gatorland on the left. Marsh is in the back of Gatorland - follow signs. Trip time is about 1 hour door to door..

Hidden Waters Preserve


Take 441 South through Leesburg, past Lake Square Mall and continue past Rt. 19 By-pass toward Mt. Dora. Pass shopping center and Perkins resturant on right and look for Ford Dealership with HUGE American flag on left. Just past Ford agency, at next traffic light, turn left onto East Crooked Lake Road. Go 0.4 mi. to Country Club Rd. Turn rt. and go 0.7 mi to site on right.

Hontoon Island State Park

From Belk’s parking lot go to Griffin Road and turn left at 25. Go right on 42. Follow 42 to 44. Go left on 44, towards Deland, cross St. John’s River and, after rail road tracks, watch for Brown FL Birding sign on the right. Turn right at Hontoon Island sign and follow signs to river.


From The Villages ( Belk’s parking lot) take 466 west towards Oxford..;cross I-75 to 475 south. Turn left and follow 475 south to 44. Turn right (west) on 44 and watch carefully for a brown FL Birding sign. (appox. 1 mile). You will turn left and enter via Jones Creek Trail.

From Weirsdale: 42 East toward Deland. 42 ends at Rt. 44. Turn left (east) on 44 toward downtown Deland. Short distance on Rt. 44. Look for LW NWR parking area on your left (before RR tracks). There is another parking area off Grand Ave. See attached map. We will announce meeting area before leaving from Belk's.

Merritt Island National Seashore

From Belk's parking lot go to Griffin Rd. Turn left onto Griffin Rd and follow to Rt 25. Turn left on 25 (north) and at Rt 42 turn right(East). Continue on 42 until it intersects with 44 - turn east on 44 through Deland. Continue on 44 east to I-95. Go south on I-95 to Titusville exit(220) on Rt 406. Go east thru Titusville. Cross over drawbridge to Parrish Park. Look for rest area on left where the rest of the group will meet you. If going on your own take the Black Point Wildlife Drive.

 

Belk’s parking lot to Griffin Rd., left on Griffin Rd., left on 25, go through Weirsdale. Before Ocklawaha turn right on Bay Rd. to the end and left on 113th, right on 464C and cross the Ocklawaha river. Take the first right into Moss Bluff Park, pay and park.

From the Villages take 446 north to 475. Right to 475 south (left across I75) to 44 west (turn right) to Inverness and 41 north. Stay right on 41. Shortly after 44 and 41 split you will see brown “Great Fl Birding Ttrail” sign. Turn right and follow signs (right on Zepher, left on Ella, right on Turner Camp Road). Go +/- 6 miles to Dee St. Turn left . Gate for the park is approx. 1 mile on the right.Information onWeb

Sabal Bluff Preserve

From The Villages take 441/27 south to Leesburg. Bear left staying on 441. Turn left on 44. Turn left on Leesburg Mobile City Rd. The entry to Sabal Bluff is on the right.

Sawgrass

From Belk’s parking lot turn right on 441 to Griffin Road. Left on Griffin to 25. Left on 25 to 42. Turn right on 42 (east) to CR 452. Turn right on 452 to Sun Lake entrance. Go to end and check for Scrub Jays. Then turn left and then right on Sawgrass Island Road. Park in the parking lot at end.

Seminole State Forest
From Weirsdale: 42 East to 452 south to Eustis.Left on 44A east, past Trout Lake Nature Center and continue until 44A turns right to 44. Turn left (east) on 44 to 46A. Bear right and follow to 46. Left on 46. Take 46 east about 2 miles to entrance to park on left. Pay entry fee and assemble inside gate.

Silver River State Park
Silver River S.P. is located east of Ocala, one mile south of S.R. 40 on S.R. 35. From Belk’s parking lot go to 441/27 north to Belleview. Turn right at second red light SR 25. Follow a short way then turn left (north) on SR 35 (Baseline Rd.) The State Park is located on the right.

Sunnyhill Restoration Area

From Belk’s parking lot turn right on 441 to Griffin Road. Left on Griffin Road to 25. Left on 25 to 42.Go east (right) on 42 over the Ocklawaha River bridge. Watch carefully, the entrance is on the left. Drive past the small office on the right and turn left at birding sign. Follow to Blue House and parking.
